Duodeno – Ileostomy: Hand – Sewn vs Mechanical
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the steps and anatomy involved in the creation of a duodeno-ileostomy for a duodenal switch or SADI-S.
- Be familiar with the steps involved in stapled vs. hand-sewn duodeno-ileostomy anastomosis.
- Be familiar with hand-sewn anastomosis as a safe bail-out maneuver.

Dr. Kyoo-Yoon (Jake) Choi, MD, FRCSC
McMaster University
Dr. Jake Choi completed his medical degree at the University of Saskatchewan, followed by a general surgery residency at the University of Calgary. He is currently a fellow at McMaster University, pursuing fellowships in minimally invasive surgery and endoscopic surgery. Dr. Choi's training emphasizes minimally invasive approaches to foregut surgery, including endoscopic techniques, as well as laparoscopic hernia surgery and bariatric surgery.
